Having knocked out the league leaders in the last round of their Divisional League Cup, Staines entertained a Worplesdon side who had beaten them 3-0 in the league – and emerged comfortable 6-2 victors.

Pat Mackinney scored his first goal of the season on 7 mins to set the ball rolling, but the home side then suffered the setback of losing Sangster to an early hamstring injury. Mackinney’s second on the half hour settled the nerves, before a quickfire double from Bobby Cooper (38 minutes) and débutant Mahammed Tahir (40) all but made the game safe by the interval.

Charlie Greensmith reduced the arrears on the hour from a Hayes assist, but any nervousness was quickly dispelled when Cooper netted his second 5 minutes later, followed in the 70th minute by a successful Divin Kaba penalty. A Crooke assist set up Joseph Alexander for Worplesdon’s 86th minute consolation. Staines will meet the Reserve side of Shottermill & Haslemere or Cranleigh in the final, set to be played in early April at Westfield FC.
