STAINES & LAMMAS (MIDDLESEX) Res/U23 (1) 1 AFC ROYAL HOLLOWAY Res (0) 0
Staines were quickly out of the blocks with Harry Ackerley sweeping home what transpired to be the only goal of the game from 8 yards after only 6 minutes. They did have the ball in the net twice more in the first half, both times through skipper Lambdon, but his 26th min header was ruled out for a push, as was another strike 4 mins later because Kukawski has strayed offside.
After pleasant weather in the first half, much of the second was played in a torrential storm, but it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of Lamar Besidonne and Keith Dry’s team who kept on top for a well-deserved opening-day win. As the only early kick-off, they briefly topped the table, but ended the day in 4th.
