CB HOUNSLOW UNITED (0) 1 STAINES & LAMMAS (MIDDLESEX) (3) 5
Paul Burgess’s side looked far more coherent than in their earlier friendlies, and it showed in this morale-boosting victory over Combined Counties Division 1 opponents CB Hounslow. The match was played on the newer of the two pitches at the former Feltham Community College … once the Gurkas’ 5-a-side tourney was hastily concluded … and while ‘serenaded’ by a rave festival on the adjacent field!
In an end-to-end opening, Beauchamp rattled the post for Staines before Josh Stewart opened the scoring on 7 minutes when getting his shot on the end of a corner. Two minutes later, skipper Richard Bond added a second in similar fashion, and although Hounslow also manufactured several chances which were dealt with by returning ‘keeper Kalokoh, it was Staines who finished the half on top.
Seconds before the interval, Tom Betts sidefooted home a low Hieke cross to make it three. The second half was only moments old when a Petch free kick was flicked in for a rare goal by Russell Canderton. It became 0-5 on the hour mark Luke Halsey’s cross being hammered against the post by Betts, for Josh Hieke to turn in the rebound.
Staines did not have things all their own way, however, and after several more chances at each end, Hounslow capped a spell of pressure with a goal from Theo Williams, shooting past Appleton in the 78th minute.
