RIPLEY VILLAGE (0) 0 STAINES & LAMMAS (MIDDLESEX) (2) 3
The quaint setting of Ripley’s village green, with its 18th century pavilion, was the location for Paul Burgess’s men to return to winning ways.
After a dominant opening quarter, The Blue Swans went ahead when Russell Canderton found the net from 10 yards on 22 minutes, and 10 minutes later they cemented that lead with a second. Richard Bond took a quick free-kick, Jamie Ross and Paul Baker worked the ball to the edge of the goal area, from where Josh Hieke netted. Ross was booked for a foul just before the break, but a disagreement on the half-time whistle led to a red card and dismissal from the technical area for the Ripley manager.
When Josh Hooks made it 3-0 with a shot from a dozen yards on 53 minutes, it seemed that Staines might go on to a big score, but the game gradually settled down and no further goals were added – Ethan Leeks came closest but was denied by a flying save by O’Sullivan.
