STAINES & LAMMAS (MIDDLESEX) (0) 0 LYNE (0) 0
These two rival sides fought out an entertaining, but ultimately frustrating scoreless draw at The Rec, and although the visitors had their chances, Paul Burgess was left to rue his strikers’ inability to convert a number of second half chances. A record crowd of 115 was boosted by mascots from the U8 and U11 Junior sides.
The visitors hit the crossbar early on, whilst Bond saw a shot well saved at the other end on 14 minutes. Perhaps Lammas’ best chance came 11 minutes from time but Canderton’s close-range effort was turned away by Edgecombe. Robertson had picked up a yellow card for dissent just before the half-time whistle, and with 11 minutes to go the match featured the first sin binning of the season when a similar offence by Hooks saw him forced to spend 10 minutes on the sideline.
Lyne won a dangerous free-kick towards the end of that period, but Kennedy pulled off a great save to keep it level. Following the final whistle, matchball sponsor and supporter Roger Marsden presented the Man of the Match award to his selection, skipper Richard Bond.
