STAINES & LAMMAS (MIDDLESEX) (1) 1 RIPLEY VILLAGE (0) 1
Staines held on to 2nd spot in the table, but let two precious points slip against a Ripley side who showed far greater fight than their lowly league position might have suggested.
The visitors looked overwhelmed to begin with, but then started to get on top. However, Lammas snatched a 26th minute lead when Ross sent over a corner from the right, and Hamish Gwynne-Porter applied the perfect header to send it looping just under the bar. Seven mins later, Ross was denied by Horobin’s brave save when he was through one-on-one, but play quickly switched to the other end where Kennedy had to deal with a rasping shot.
Ripley’s equaliser on 53 mins was an unfortunate one, as Josh Stewart diverted the ball into his own goal when trying to clear an awkward James Comer cross. Staines were stung into action, with Hieke hitting the crossbar and Marshall firing a shot just wide, but there were to be no further goals. Bond picked up a caution on the half hour for persistent infringement, as did Lands for hands (88m).
Ron Windsor selected and presented the Man of the Match bubbly to Gwynne-Porter.
